If you live in LA you may have heard about this. Apparently this big
rig ran out of control yesterday on the 405 N while going about 10mph.
He came in contact with about 15 car before stopping. Some reports
say the driver appeared to be unconscious. He was taken to the
hospital. Traffic was backed up for miles during afternoon rush hour.
I'm glad he wasn't going any faster otherwise I suspect it could have
been a lot worse. I hope everyone is okay.

Wedding: Offbeat Bride - Creative Alternatives for Independent Brides

Offbeat Bride: Creative Alternatives for Independent Brides
47 days engaged!

I started reading Offbeat Bride a couple weeks ago along with a plethora of other incredibly informative wedding books (lent to me by the most beautimous, Raven.  Thank you!).  Can I just say, THERE IS SO MUCH TO KNOW, YO!  What I thought was going to be a simple and casual celebration of our love and commitment to one another is quickly turning into a major event (relatively speaking).  And, aside from throwing a birthday party here and there this offbeat-bride-to-be knows next to nothing about event planning.  I'm so grateful for supportive parents, creative friends, a fiancé who worked in the event industry for may years and, yes, the internet!  Anyway, back to the book...I haven't gotten very far into it but Ariel had me hooked just a few pages in when she shared a story about hoop dancing.....in a bar .

Stop scratching your head...it's called Offbeat Bride for a reason.

As if that wasn't apropos enough, a few pages later was the first mention of Burning Man.

Side note: Farilla and I first met at Burning Man in 2001.  We were friends for may years before he asked me out on our fist date in 2008.  He proposed to me this year in the same place we met 9 years earlier.

So, as previously mentioned, I'm not very far into this book but I'm very excited to see what it has to offer.

If you're planning an offbeat wedding you might also consider checking out:

Oh!  And I'm beyond thrilled to share that as of about 30 minutes ago our wedding venue contract was signed, sealed and delivered.  A very Shutterilla wedding is on for the Summer of 2011.  Stay tuned...

As seen on the streets of Culver City. Apparently this fine piece of art-chinery debuted at Burning Man this year. It's electric with a 20 mile range. And it can go up to 30 mph. Oh, and it's made out of wood, plexi and rope.

The Air Plants I purchased on Etsy from seller Chicweed finally have homes thanks to a trip to CB2 yesterday afternoon.  I absolutely love our new little space aliens.

The dark side of Playa Braids...

No one ever talks about the dark side of getting Playa Braids. For instance, you look like Rosanne Roseannadanna upon taking them out. The gerbil-sized hairball that comes out of your head the first time you wash your hair (after taking them out) has kept some gals I know from getting them a second time. Braids aren't comfortable to sleep on...at all. I liken it to sleeping with curlers in your hair. If you get them wet it feels like you're wearing an extra ten pounds on your head. Then they take forever to dry. You're constantly worried about burning your scalp so you must keep sunblock on all exposed areas. And we all know that sunblock + dust storms = yuck! They can get itchy after a few days. None of my hats fit with braids. Oh, and it takes just as many hours to take them out as it takes to put them in. Yet, I miss them when I don't have them in and I keep going back for more! Go figure...
