In case you've ever wondered what
fourteen pounds of leafy winter green looks like... well, there you have it. On Wednesday I picked up my first
CSA box from the
South Central Farmers Cooperative filled with local, sustainable and organic produce. They have a drop-off location all of four blocks from my office. So convenient.

Here's what
$15.00 bought me:
Red Kale
Blue Kale
Black Kale
Red Romaine Lettuce
Butter Crunch Lettuce
Cilantro
Collard Greens
Mustard Greens
Bloomsdale Spinach
Red Beets
Rainbow Chard
Swiss Chard
Thank goodness for my blender and Tim & Tessa's juicer. Otherwise, I don't know how I'd get through all of this before it starts to wilt.
What I've made so far:
Wednesday night I sauteed up the three Kales & two Chards with garlic, lemon juice, chili pepper powder and olive oil. We ate this with some
Quinoa. Admittedly it was just okay...too many competing flavors amongst the greens. Lesson learned. For lunch the next day I made a salad with the romaine, butter crunch, red onion, walnuts, tomatoes, n/f Feta with a Vinaigrette dressing. Yum City! And last night while researching green smoothies I threw together a very non-green beet, blueberry, kale, walnut, n/f plain yogurt, vanilla almond milk smoothie...double yum city. In fact, I'm sipping on one of these as I type.

Between what we've already eaten and what I've given away I've still barely made a dent in the box. Yep, I foresee a major juicing extravaganza this weekend! Interweb, if you have any recipe suggestions feel free to leave 'em in the comments below!
