As of a couple of weeks ago I officially met my first neighbor...Yay!  And due to my running habit I'm beginning to regularly cross paths with other locals in the new hood.  It may seem silly but the simple act of greeting my neighbors gives me such a nice feeling of connectedness with this new community.

 

Running: New socks ROCK!

Great run tonight...I pushed it a bit harder (and farther) and really felt the difference.  I wonder if it has anything to do with the new Injinji socks I picked up at REI yesterday?! ;-) Love them!

Blog: Happy Birthday Blog!

It's been one month since I started blogging.  At some point along the way I started using Google Analytics to keep track of my site stats (shown here...click to enlarge).  I highly recommend this service if you're at all interested in receiving more detailed info about the traffic generated by your site.  Best of all it's FREE!  And installation is as easy as 'cut & paste'!

Life: Jam With Bob Dylan

Yesterday afternoon Ilya and I were lucky enough to pull ourselves away from our respective jobs to check out the opening day of Bob Dylan's American Journey exhibit up at the Skirball Cultural Center.  

While I found the entire show to be quite interesting the highlight was in the very back of the exhibit where multiple interactive stations were set up which allowed participants to jam to various Dylan songs.  My personal favorite was the percussion station which I'll do no justice in describing...so you'll just have to trust that it was super cool!

Apparently photo taking was a no-no so I was only able to snap a couple of shots on my iPhone before a docent came over and politely asked us to refrain.  Pictured above is a full stage set up with multiple guitars and a drum set in back.  Just slip on the headphones and rock away!  

Righteous!

Running: Faster, Harder, Stronger

Wow...it was a warm one here in Soul Cal today! I planned my run for late afternoon when the temps came down. It was AMAZING! I swear I was actually smiling through the first mile. Doesn't get much better...

I ran almost the exact same distance as yesterday yet I managed to drop over a minute off of my time. w00t!

In the words of one of the best lyricists of his time....Today was a good day!

Running: Geared Up

I know when I'm REALLY sick because all I want to do is crawl into bed and stay there for a week.  Fortunately this doesn't happen often.  It's taken a couple of weeks but I'm definitely back to 100%.  

So happy to be running again.  Yesterday all I could think about was getting home and gearing up.  After taking two weeks off it's time to start working back up to my original goals.  Feeling good...

I stumbled across these Oldies tonight!

Worth noting:

-This was our FIRST year and we hardly knew anyone in Camp. Notice very few (yet very far away) shots of Slicers.

-We arrived on Thursday late afternoon and left on Sunday before the Temple Burn.

-Note the entrance and exit (posted) BRC population signs.

-This was pre-digital days so I didn't shoot the Burn (or anything else at night) because I couldn't meter the light.

-It was a particularly cold year and it rained hard. I believe the term Playa Platforms was invented in 2000.

-When it got really windy BMorg set the Man down on his back so he wouldn't blow over. And then (with people power) lifted him back up when the winds died down (pictured above).

-The Nage Mahal was tiny.

-We had a communal kitchen and communal dinners.

-We had an actual (Home)Slice of Burnt Toast Sculpture out in front of Camp.

-We had a Homeslice Wedding Reception that year!

-I took VERY few photos because I was trying to take it all in! And because I was only there 2 full days that first year.

-I can't believe I didn't get a single shot of Charlie's Tower!

-And last but not least, Grant/Kheddarz was ripped back then because I was his ass-kickin' Personal Trainer!  w00t!

Last April when I went up to visit Amy in Washington the only thing on my MUST-see list was the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle.

After scooping me up at the airport our first stop was Whole Foods for lunch. We then shot straight over to peep the Sculpture Park. It wasn't until we were leaving that I eyed the tree pictured here. It was so life like that I nearly missed this beautiful stainless steel gem.

This shot is still one of my favorites from that entire trip.

Life: Poop Talk

My bestest friend in the whole wide world is having trouble convincing her son to go poop on the potty (which you can read about in great detail here).  As any good pseudo-Aunt would do I referred her to this motor-bike-shaped Winner Potty.  I was convinced that because it's so rad Jarom would be forced, out of pure glee, to poop on it like a big boy!

To my dismay this was Mom's response:

"That's awesome! Unfortunately, since Jarom is a little older unless it has a suction to pull the poop right out of his butt when he sits on it, i am afraid it won't be useful."

Oh well, back to the drawing board!
