Art: Got it!

David Choe Posters LA 4/10

After seeing these plastered all over the Westside yesterday I decided I better get one before they're all ganked. Farilla and I attempted a mission last night but said mission was trumped by LOST. Fortunately my morning adventure was a complete success...

Thanks to my multi-tool I was able to reach this beauty (which was stapled to the above telephone pole)...

This poster will compliment my growing Choegal collection nicely, don't you think?

Art: HEEL Wheat Pastes Popping Up Around LA

What what?

Apparently Disney has run out of original movie marketing ideas.  With this HEEL campaign they've resorted to ripping off Shepard Fairey.  I guess I can't blame them considering Shepard is on fire right now due to the success of his Obama prints.

Photos: BCAM @ LACMA 4/2008

After Boot Camp yesterday morning I was (surprisingly) able to muster up the energy to join Ilya for an afternoon exploring BCAM, the newest addition on the LACMA campus. So glad we went. There are some really stellar pieces being shown in BCAM's inaugural installation. No cameras allowed, natch. However, I was able to snap a few shots with my iPhone for your viewing pleasure. I highly recommend checking out this exhibit. Especially if we continue to have 90+ degree days here in Soul Cal. What better way to get a break from the heat than by getting out and exploring....ART!?

BCAM @ LACMA-

(I must get back there one of these evenings to get a shot of these all lit up at dusk!)

Jeff Koons "Tulips"-

(I just wanted to hug them...perfect hugging shape.)

John Baldessari "Tips For Artists..."-

(...duly noted!)

Richard Serra's "Band"-
Richard Serra's "Band"
(I love Serra's work but my favorite, by far, is his Wave installation in Seattle's Olympic Sculpture Park.  These massive pieces are meant to be viewed outside in open space....ahem, like the Playa!)

To view a few more snaps from our BCAM adventure click here.

SIDE NOTE-ABLE: I returned home from this lovely outing with Ilya (who I was introduced to at Burning Man last year) yesterday afternoon to find a large white envelope postmarked from Seattle in my mail.  It was filled with all sorts of artistic goodies (which made me giggle like a giddy little school girl as I sorted through the contents) from yet ANOTHER friend who I met on the Playa for the first time last year!  Thanks again, J9!  You're SUPER FLY, my Playa Sister!  Love, love, love the creative treasures you sent my way!  Feeling incredibly grateful to have both of these wonderful new friends in my life. Once again, the Playa has delivered in a BIG way!

Art: Blek Le Rat Sightings

Yes indeed, Blek Le Rat is in full-effect in Soul Cal.  I snapped these shots of his handy work while perusing Sunset Junction over the weekend.  Fresh paint, fer sure!

Blek's stencils predate Banksy's shared style by about 10 years.  If you're a graff/stencil fan you won't want to miss BLR's first solo US exhibit this weekend @ Subliminal Projects.

Art: Skullphone Digital Billboard In Los Angeles

Within hours of yesterday's post about Skullphone's digital billboard hacks (or paid ads?) popping up around LA I had my very own sighting at the intersection of Westwood and Olympic.  I was totally caught off guard and scrambled to grab my camera but as quickly as Skullphone appeared...he then disappeared.  Unfortunately I had to move along before getting my shot.

Later that evening while heading home I pulled into the strip mall at the Westwood/Olympic intersection with camera in hand.  I got out of my car only to find 3 other Urban Culture Geeks already camped out on the corner snapping pics of Skullphone's handy work.  Curtis, Michael and Quiet Dude (whose name I didn't get) were there shooting for a local Urban Culture Zine ( Vs, Verses, Versus?) which I'm not familiar with...help me out here guys!  I asked them if they they'd seen any other billboards and Michael immediately started rattling off intersections.  Yep, those Dudes were all over it...

Would love to hear more about whether this is a brilliant hack job or simply paid-for adverts by Skullphone...if anyone has any more info about this lemme know!
